So far pretty fun

Its been a little while since my last post, although I have been pretty busy. I finally got to play Warhammer Online, and I have to say its pretty fun. It does need some more polish that's for sure. But overall I like it quite a bit.

Other than that I have just been working pretty much. Not a whole lot going on.

In the Beta!...Sorta

Woo, I got an invite to the closed beta of Warhammer Online! Actually I got it on Tuesday. The problem is I have do DL it through bit torrent which is normally ok, its just that for some reason no matter what ports I open I can't get fast download speeds, at most the download has gone at about 90 KB/s, and oh yeah, the file is just under 10 gigs. Needless to say the download is gonna take a couple days, and the anticipation is killing me, especially because these are my days off.

Anyway, I also picked up Madden 09 over my days off. I'm really impressed with the graphical upgrades they put into it, especially since the graphics last year weren't anything to sneeze at. Game play is pretty good, the new My Skill system is pretty neat, although I think its a little flawed. The tests you take for it seem to over rate your skill because the tests they put you through are way easier than the actual game. I also forgot how pissed off I get at this game when I play it. I don't know what it is, but something about the game just sets me off some times. Its probably because most of the time the game is pretty accurate with how it plays out... Most of the time... Its those times when Willie Parker Breaks six tackles through the middle to run for a touchdown or when a linebacker makes some ridiculous interception that really make me mad.

Another Weekend in the Books

Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but it has been a long and busy weekend for me. Work was really hectic, but that is a good thing seeing as I made some good money, although I have to say I wouldn't mind a break in the pace every so often.

There are so many good games coming out soon, I suppose we are coming upon gaming (holiday) season pretty soon. Madden 09 is coming out on Tuesday, I will probably end up going over to my friends place to get some time in on the game, still not sure if I am going to but it or not. After Madden 06, I really lost a lot of interest in the franchise, because it was such a big let down that year. Also there is Warhammer online which everyone knows I am really looking forward to. I also just saw a trailer for Star Trek online and I have to admit it looks pretty darn cool. Then ofcourse there is Spore, Fable 2, FF 13 just to name a few. It looks to be shaping up to be a pretty good year.

As far as the writing front goes, I honestly haven't had a lot of time to really concentrate on ideas for the novel, work has been keeping me really busy as of recently, but maybe I can get some time in tomorrow on it during some down periods during the day.

Hooray & Huzzah!

Finally, after about a month of ordering parts and fixing things, my computer has been completely assembled and is in working order! Now all I have to do is find a game that I can test my new parts on to see how they fare... Anyway, I keep reading more and more about Warhammer Online and I keep getting more excited, there is some really good info about the game in a Gamespy beta diary.

Also a topic I may discuss quite a bit in the near future is Eagles Football! That is the other thing that I am really hyped up for, I have eagerly anticipated the coming of the season with all the free agent pick ups and what I think is going to be a great draft class. First preseason games is tomorrow, woohoo!

Now, to figure out all the little programs that I have to re-download back onto my computer that I had before... Oh and by the way, thanks RJ for all the help with the computer!

Deadly Collision

Well, I just learned that Warhammer Online is going to have collision detection. This is just one of many small little details that go a long way to making a game successful. Basically what collision detection means is that players won't be able to just run through each other while they are interacting or fighting. This is good for a couple reasons; for one, it makes a big difference in melee combat. If you have ever played World of Warcraft you know that this fact alone makes tanks in the game pretty much useless, people just run right through them, literally, and run straight at the casters and long range dps. Now tanks can actually protect their squishier counterparts in pvp like they can in pve. Another thing that this does is brings terrain into the combat a lot more. For example, if a wall of tanks stands at the end of a bridge or canyon, a la Spartans, then the rest of their team can heal and snipe from afar while protecting a valuable defense point. Anyway, I just keep getting more and more excited for the release of the game, that and beta is so close I can almost taste it!

My computer...

As some of you may know, I have been in the process of upgrading my computer. I started because (I thought) that my processor had over heated and I figured if I got a new processor, I might as well go ahead and upgrade the mobo, gpu, and memory as well. So, I went ahead and ordered all my new parts, waited like a kid expecting Christmas morning, eagerly anticipating the arrival of my new toys. When they arrived, I joyfully unpackaged them from their plastic wrapped encasements and began my tinkering. However, as I did this I happened on an interesting discovery. Upon further examination of my motherboard, I found that my four pin power connector had melted itself to my motherboard. It was then that I realized that it was this that my computer had detected overheating not my processor. I wasn't that upset about it at the time, I had been planning to upgrade my computer for awhile anyway, I was just waiting for a reason to do so. None the less, I went on with a will, (that is after I went out and bought a new power supply), deriving much enjoyment out of the connecting and disconnecting, (building computer's is a hobby of mine that I don't get to indulge very often) and then finally I booted up my machine. Everything was going well, BIOS were flashing, Windows were booting, drivers were updating, and then alas, upon a restart of my computer I received an error. Apparently one of my hard drives, my boot drive actually, had become corrupted. So, here I sit, blogging on my girlfriend's new laptop, awaiting my new hard drive and praying for no more problems.

First post

Well, this is my first post, the first step on a long journey to nowhere. Basically I have decided to start a blog to exercise my writing, help organize my thoughts, (it is always better to put down your thoughts on some medium when they hit you, otherwise you will most likely forget them within the next hour or so) and maybe let people I know whats going on with me. I must admit this blog was created in reaction to several of my other friends creating blogs, but it seemed like such a good idea to me, I decided to jump on the bandwagon. I digress, I will be talking about anything from movies, video games, books, as well as ideas and techniques for a novel I am conspiring with a friend of mine to write. So, without any further ado, I officially kick off my blog!
